She had moments when shame returned wearing a new face. But she also had friends again. Real ones. She joined the school theater crew, not onstage, but behind the scenes where she could build sets and control lights. She graduated high school with honors and chose to study social work at the University of North Texas.
At her graduation, Thomas brought flowers, cried before the ceremony started, and embarrassed her by cheering too loudly.
