“You’ve got to be kidding.” Dad glared at me.
“You’ll be learning what it’s like to be the only ‘different people’ in the room.”
My mother stared at me as though I had slapped her. “This is ridiculous, Jen. We came here for help, and you’re trying to punish us.”
“No,” I answered calmly. “This is the first honest thing that’s happened in this room today, and if you see it as punishment… well, that says a lot about you.”
“We came here for help, and you’re trying to punish us.”
