One evening over dinner, Jordan told them he had grown up in an orphanage after being abandoned by his biological parents. I expected compassion, maybe even admiration for everything he had achieved despite his beginnings.
Instead, my parents exchanged glances and laughed softly.
“But I think we all know why your parents took you to the orphanage,” Dad replied, as though it were the funniest joke in the world.
I stared at him in disbelief. “Are you serious right now?”
