He simply made sure Zara had internet for school.
He stocked the kitchen.
He arranged transportation.

The city lights reflected across his face.
Nathaniel glanced sideways.
“So do you.”
He gave a dry laugh.
“Most days I’m not sure I own my life anymore.”
Nathaniel rested his arms against the railing.
His jaw tightened.
“So I spent my entire life becoming useful instead of human.”
Sierra studied him quietly.
For the first time, she saw not the CEO.
Not the billionaire.
Just a tired man standing alone above a city that constantly demanded pieces of him.
“You know,” she said gently, “you’re allowed to exist without earning it.”
