The Press Conference and a Single Word

During a Vatican press conference, closely followed by the international media, Pope Leo XIV was asked a question many Americans were eager to hear: “Do you have a message for the United States?”

The pontiff, a hypothetical Chicago-born pope with a long background in social service and dialogue, paused briefly. Then, with a calm and deliberate smile, he answered with one word.

“Many.”
