Born in 1979, Powers pursued her academic path with determination, first attending Baruch College before continuing her medical training at New York College of Podiatric Medicine. She later completed highly regarded residency programs affiliated with Georgetown University and Boston University, strengthening her reputation as a skilled and compassionate physician. In July 2020, her life changed dramatically when she was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, one of the most aggressive forms of brain cancer. The diagnosis marked the beginning of a difficult medical journey that she faced with remarkable openness and resilience. After initially undergoing surgery that successfully removed a tumor, there was hope that the disease had been contained. Sadly, the cancer later returned, bringing renewed challenges. Even during intense treatment that included chemotherapy and radiation, Powers continued to embrace life’s most meaningful moments. During this period, she welcomed her son, Bennett, often speaking with humor about balancing motherhood and treatment. She once described herself as “the luckiest unlucky girl,” joking that she and her infant son shared the same hairstyle while she underwent therapy.
